Notes

The Bristol Hotel closed its doors for the last time and without ceremony on Christmas Eve 1979.

Before putting up the shutters for the last time, Brian & Christine King who have been popular figures behind the bars said it was with heavy hearts and regret that they had not been able to take customers into their confidence. We made the cut clean because the youngster’s reaction would have upset us. It will leave a gap in the social life of the town. The youth scene saw 600 to700 on Friday nights and took eight people to keep the two bars going.
